The Healthcare and Social Assistance sector is by far the fastest growing industry in Spokane County. Over the past five years, 6,220 health related jobs have been created locally, and steady continued job growth is forecasted for the sector. Spokane is the regional hub for health care in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, with a diverse cluster of hospitals, research facilities, labs, education, and clinics. The Riverpoint Campus in downtown Spokane has expanded to house facilities for Eastern Washington University, University of Washington, and Washington State University, including the extensions of medical and dental schools. As the Baby Boom generation gets older and requires more health care, Spokane will be well equipped to handle the additional demand for health related services.
